Collecting of grapes is done by hands and then baskets with grapes get transported to the wineries. There, they get carefully inspected by winemakers, and then placed in wide treading tanks for separating juice and pulp from skin. Nowadays, Port wine is usually held in steel vats and is fermented for 3-8 days only. To stop the fermentation process, moonshine or 20% brandy is added. After that, the wine is bottled and ready to drink. Port wine does not contain sugar, but it’s still very sweet because of the sweetness of the grapes. Each grape variety has its own character such as delicate floral scents, intense flavors of woodland fruit, exotic spicy notes or wild aromas of gum cistus.
